If you’re looking for a new messaging app that emphasizes the “social” aspect of messaging, your first choice should be the BeReal App. The information page for the app says it all when it introduces the app by its motto: “Your Friends For Real.” The app is free, easy to download, and even easier to use.
Keeping in touch with your friends is easy with this new and exciting app, and helps you discover what your friends are doing on a daily basis.
The App Preview page tells us the BeReal app can be found in the app store of an iPhone. This introductory page shows screenshots of the app’s most prominent benefits such as sending one notification to all group members and allowing all your friends or group members to respond to your messages at the same time. It lets a prospective user know about the app’s capacity for speed: it tells you a message can be sent in just two minutes. In addition, your messages and notices can be personalized by the use of pictures and emojis.
The app’s main feature is the ability for group members to share a daily picture notification. This picture is called a “BeReal” (thus, the name of the app.) At a random time each day, the app sends every group member a notification. The users then all have 2 minutes to send an “on the spot” picture of themselves to the group. The user’s pictures are sent only to group members who have been verified and who also participate in the activity. The photos taken by this app are unique; they give group members a view from your front and also from your back. The messages sent are tagged with your location, so your group members know all the exciting places you have been. Since those friends are all doing the same thing, each member of your social circle can post their pictures or messages, and enhance the socialization and fun within the group. The pictures taken by the app can’t be edited, and you can’t use filters.
It’s thus a totally candid way to share your day with everyone in your group. Users can then have fun scrolling through everyone’s pictures, and those who are unhappy with their daily selfies can use an option to have their picture disappear after 24 hours.
If you aren’t available to send a picture at that particular time, there is no penalty. You’re not removed from the group. You will miss seeing the pictures of the other group members for that time period, but you can rest assured there will be another opportunity to post on the upcoming days. You could also choose to send your daily picture at a later time, but the push notification received by your group mates will let them know your picture was not taken on time.
Berea can customize its privacy features based on the users’ age, or an adult user can easily set their desired privacy settings. Users can add new contacts to the group from their own phone contacts, or use the app’s “discover” feature to see if someone is already using the app. If having your location posted on your message is a concern, you can easily turn off this feature of the app’s messaging.
Tech reviewer Hannah Towey, who regularly posts on the uses of apps on the Business Insider website, has been very positive in her promotion of the app. Hannah tells us BeReal has been growing in popularity – especially among college students Hannah’s usage of the app has led her to say she prefers it to Instagram and Snapchat.
Hannah polled her college friends for their reasons to use BeReal, and they have all told her they think the app is “fun.”
BeReal is compatible with iOS systems of 14.0 or later. It can be used in English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Chinese, and Spanish. It is recommended for users aged 12 and over.
So, if you want an easy way to enjoy daily contact with a select group of friends, your next app choice should be BeReal.
